National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) levels 2 & 3

Driving Goods Vehicles Training from N-GagedTrain to Gain is a national scheme aimed at giving employees the opportunity to gain their first Level 2 qualification. Train to Gain also gives participants the opportunity to improve their Numeracy and Literacy skills in order to take a National Test at either Level 1 or 2. Train to Gain is funded by the LSC and can help your business access training to help improve your business in all areas/departments.

This NVQ is intended for employees that either currently work with LGV's or hope to do so through this training. NVQs can deliver the following business improvements:

  • Work effectively with minimal supervision

The trainee will first enrol onto the programme and complete a training needs analysis and initial assessment of their numeracy and literacy skills. The LGV driver will enrol on a fully funded Level 2 NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles, NVQ assessments are carried out in the workplace and on the road so there is no lost time to the employer. NVQ Level 2 assessments to prove occupational competence take place at regular intervals at your convenience.

The programme is also open to employed individuals who have not already achieved their LGV licence and for those who want to upgrade their Class C licence to a Class C+E. However, in these cases employers will be asked to contribute towards training costs as Train to Gain funding does not cover legislative training. A discounted rate for LGV Cat C or C+E training is available to participants on the scheme.

Comprehensive Training

Including:

  • Funded through the Train to Gain LSC initiative 
  • Full Level 2 NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles including: 
  • Regular Driving Assessments for Cat C & C+E drivers. 
  • Learn to drive a Cat C or C+E vehicle at a discounted rate while studying. 
  • LGV Class C or C+E driver training and testing 
  • Assessment in your workplace 
  • IAR at the start, middle and end of the training 
  • Flexible delivery 
  • Optional Skills for life training and learning to prepare candidates for National Tests in Numeracy and Literacy at Level 1 and 2. 

The NVQ is divided into units which are:-

  • Monitoring the loading of vehicles by others; 
  • Completing pre-driving preparations (daily vehicle checks); 
  • Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property; 
  • Maintaining awareness of driving conditions; 
  • Operating the vehicle systems; 
  • Driving the vehicle on public roads; 
  • Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces. 

There are two optional units, which are:

  • Unloading the vehicle; 
  • Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle. 

The assessor assigned to you gives you all the support and guidance you will need to achieve this qualification. We also have a centre co-ordinator and an internal verifier to fully support you in achieving this excellent qualification.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be:

  • Aged 19+ 
  • Fully employed (contracted) 
  • Not already achieved a full Level 2 qualification
  • Not in possession of 5 or more GCSE's grade A-C
